Introducing the Carrboro Aggies AAU Feeder Program: From Rec League to AAU
For two seasons the Carrboro Aggies have been a rec-league team: ages 11–12, Carrboro Recreation & Parks, everybody plays, no cuts. That is not changing. What is new is what comes next. Starting this year, the Aggies are launching an AAU feeder program — a pathway from the rec league to an Aggies AAU 13U/14U club team for the spring 2027 season.
Why a feeder program
Our rec division ends at 12. Every year a group of players ages out with nowhere obvious to go, and families end up searching for AAU teams across the Triangle with no idea what they are signing up for. A feeder program keeps those players together, with coaches and families they already know, and makes the jump to club basketball honest and affordable.
Last season 8 of 8 players scored and 64% of our made baskets came off an assist. That is the group we want to keep building.
How the pathway works
Rec season first (November–March). Register through Carrboro Recreation & Parks as always. Everybody plays. This is still the front door to the program.
Player evaluation open gyms (fall). Free, no commitment, all skill levels. A parent signs the player in at the door. Dates are announced on this site and by email to families who RSVP for Info Night.
AAU spring season (March–July 2027). An Aggies 13U/14U club team registered with the AAU North Carolina district, playing local tournaments first, with travel kept within a reasonable radius.
Rec players get first look. Roster spots go first to current and past Carrboro Rec Aggies, then to evaluation-gym families. We do not recruit rostered players off other Carrboro Rec teams mid-season.
Who is eligible
Ages 11–14. AAU divisions run on an August 31 age cutoff with a grade exception (13U = no older than 13 on Aug 31, or in 7th grade; 14U = no older than 14 on Aug 31, or in 8th grade). Bring a birth certificate question to Info Night and we will sort out which division your player fits.
What it costs — the honest version
AAU athlete membership: roughly $22–24 per year, paid directly to AAU (membership year runs September 1–August 31).
Club fee: set after Info Night once we know our numbers. It covers the club's AAU registration, gym rental, tournament entries, and uniforms. We will publish the full line-by-line before anyone commits.
Fee assistance: nobody sits out over a fee. If cost is a problem for your family, email the program directly and we will work it out quietly.
Our family rules do not change
Coaches communicate with parents and guardians, never one-to-one with players.
Players are identified by first name and last initial only. No public roster, no player contact info, ever.
No photo or film of a player is published without a signed media consent on file. Game film stays family-only.
Every AAU coach holds a current AAU non-athlete membership, which includes a background screen.
