Scout Skill Videos: Bobcat, the Three Knots, and Totin' Chip
Everything we are learning at Wednesday meetings, on video. Play these at home during the week - a rope and ten minutes is all it takes to get a knot right. Each video says who made it; most are Scouting America or a Scouting America council.
Pack 1919 (grades K-5): the Bobcat items
Bobcat is the first Adventure at every Cub rank: the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Cub Scout sign, handshake and salute, and the motto - Do Your Best.

The Scout Oath, line by line (Golden Gate Area Council, Scouting America). Cub Scouts say the same Oath the Troop does - this replaced the old Cub Scout Promise.
Knife safety for Cub Scouts (Scouting Magazine). Not a Bobcat item, but it is coming - the current Cub program adds knife-safety Adventures. Worth a watch before a Cub handles a pocketknife.
Troop 1919 (ages 11-17): the three Scout rank knots
These three knots are Scout rank requirement 4a, and they are the hardest thing to learn from a book. All three come from Scouting America's own Troop Leader channel.
Square knot - joins two ropes of the same thickness, and ties a bandage or a bundle.
Two half hitches - ties a rope to a post, ring or tree. This is the knot that holds a dining fly down in the wind.
Taut-line hitch - slides to tighten, then jams under load. The tent guy-line knot, the one that keeps your tent standing at 2am.
Totin' Chip: knife, axe and saw
No Scout uses a knife, saw or axe on an outing until they have earned the Totin' Chip. We teach and sign it in person - this is for watching beforehand.

Parents: one Bobcat requirement happens at home
Your Cub Scout does the personal-safety activities in "How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide" with you, at home. No parent sign-off, no Bobcat - so please do it this week. Bobcat requirements by rank are on scouting.org under Cub Scout Adventures.
